Dare to Know: Sugar Facts
Coming from a genetically diabetic family, growing up in a household of diabetes and heart attacks and low blood sugar midnight sweats and losing loved ones to the effects of diabetes, I know the bad side of sugar and its effects and I deeply urge you to watch your sugar intake, do without it if you can or at least use in moderation.
What does sugar do to our bodies? 1. Added sugar has no nutrients and not only takes places of important nutrients but it also causes tooth decay. Yes, ‘rotten teeth’! 2. The fructose in added sugar overloads the liver and is stored as fat for later use which is a major risk of liver problems. 3. Sugar causes insulin resistance, an ingredient of metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular disease and especially type II diabetes. 4. Sugar is the main contributor to obesity in both children and adults.
This week, we dare you to cut your sugar intake.
Consider healthy sugar alternatives such as : 1. Raw Honey 2. Stevia 3. Medjool Dates 4. Coconut Sugar 5. Maple Syrup 6. Molasses
Are you willing to swap your usual sugar for one of these substitutes for one week? Or go sugar free?
Make note of the changes you experience if any.
Also, regularly check your blood sugar levels.
Prevention is key!
