Hi,

This is Romano from Dare to Live Free Limited. Our company is dedicated to promoting healthy living.

This is a passion for us since we have seen loved ones struck down in the prime of their lives from Chronic Non Communicable Diseases (CNDCs). That is, diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke cancer and chronic respiratory disease. What is frustrating is that there are things that can be done to impact on the level of risk of these diseases. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) these modifiable factors include diet, exercise , the level of alcohol and tobacco consumption, blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels.

Here are some important facts at a glance.

  • #1 -Chronic non communicable disease is the #1 cause of death worldwide;

  • 14.5% of Trinidad and Tobago’s adult population has diabetes

  • 42%- of CNDC deaths worldwide occur before age 70, so CNCDs cut life spans .

  • 68% of deaths worldwide in 2012 were from NCDs;

  • 338 million-persons in Latin America and the Caribbean are likely to die of CNDCs by 2023.

We dare you to make a difference

You can make a difference. Do you know someone who has a family history of NCDs? Are you at risk because of lack of physical exercise, obesity, stress levels or cholesterol levels?

If you or a loved one is at risk we urge you to make a commitment to adopting some of the recommendations of the WHO’s 2014 Global Status Report of non-communicable disease:

We also encourage you to also get tested regularly for diabetes, cholesterol levels and body mass index (BMI). Adults should ideally have a BMI between 18.5 to 24.9 kg per square metre. The test for diabetes is called the hemoglobin A1c test. It is also called HbA1c, glycated hemoglobin test.

Let today be the day you dare to do something different. Dare to make a change for healthy living. This will impact positively on your energy level, your risk of NCD and even your finances as the cost of health care.

  • Write us and tell us what health and fitness goals you have set for yourself ?

  • What are the health challenges facing you and your loved ones?

In upcoming issues of this blog we will provide more information that would equip you to make health choices.

Cheers.

‘Romano’ B.
